Photographer guide.
How we work on every Book Your Shots job — from the moment an offer arrives to the day the client gets their files. Clients book Book Your Shots, so every shoot should feel the same: on time, friendly, professional and delivered fast.
1Accepting a job
- Offers go to the nearest three photographers; the first to accept is booked. Each offer shows the service, area, date, time and your pay.
- Only accept if you are sure you can make it, have the right gear and are comfortable with the subject. A cancelled job hurts the client and your rating.
- Your pay is the amount shown when you accepted. The full address and client contact appear after you accept.
- If something changes and you truly cannot make it, tell the booking team immediately at info@bookyourshots.com so we can reassign the job.
2Before the shoot
- Read the brief in your dashboard: shot list, must-haves, deadline and any reference photos.
- The client gets a "Meet your photographer" email with your photo, so keep your profile photo current and friendly.
- Questions for the client go through the messages on the job page, so everyone's phone and email stay private.
- The day before you get a reminder. Check the address, parking and travel time.
- Gear checklist: charged batteries, empty cards, a backup body or lens where possible, and lighting suited to the job (for example a light for headshots and products).
3On the day
- Arrive 10 minutes early and tap "I'm here" in your dashboard.
- Introduce yourself as the Book Your Shots photographer.
- Dress neat and simple — dark or neutral clothes, no other studio's logo.
- Be warm and guide people: most clients are not used to the camera. For families and kids, keep it relaxed and playful.
- Respect the home, venue or business: ask before moving furniture or products, and put things back.
- Stick to the booked time. Extra time happens only if the client asks and the booking team approves it (billed in 30-minute steps).
- Running late? Message the client on the job page right away, and write to info@bookyourshots.com.
- No business cards, own prices or personal social handles — do not promote your own business to our clients.
- No photos of the client on your personal phone.
4Shooting standards
Families & couples
Outdoors, soft natural light (golden hour when possible). Mix posed and candid; get everyone together and in small groups.
Products
Clean background as chosen in the booking, sharp edges, true colors. Up to 15 final images per hour.
Food & restaurants
Shoot dishes fresh, follow the dish list, show texture and garnish; add a few interior and table shots.
Real estate
Wide but not distorted, straight verticals, all lights on, blinds open, clutter out of frame. Exteriors in good light.
Headshots & teams
Consistent light, crop and background for the whole team; match their current team photos when asked.
Events & celebrations
Follow the agenda: speakers, key moments, guests, details and the venue. Stay discreet.
5Editing & upload
- Upload within 24 hours after the shoot ends and submit for review. Your dashboard shows a countdown; late uploads are flagged to quality review.
- Photos: your best selection, color-corrected, exposure and white balance fixed, horizons straight, light retouching. No heavy filters or trendy presets.
- Export: full-resolution JPEG, sRGB. No watermarks.
- Video: edited or raw footage, as you chose when you applied. Raw means straight off the camera; our editors edit it.
- Quality review checks your upload and may ask for a fix before the files go to the client.
6Privacy & the photos
- Do not post or share photos or videos from Book Your Shots jobs anywhere — not on your website, portfolio, Instagram, TikTok or any other platform — unless the booking team gives you written permission for that specific file.
- For a 🔒 Private booking, no one (including us) shows the work anywhere.
- Keep client names, addresses, phone numbers and files private. Delete your copies once we confirm delivery.
- Do not contact or work with a Book Your Shots client directly outside Book Your Shots.
7Pay & ratings
- How your pay is worked out: 60% of the shoot (session hours and shoot extras), plus 100% of any travel fee and 100% of tips. The offer always shows your exact pay before you accept.
- Video editing is done by our in-house editors. If we ask you to edit a video, that editing is paid on top and is included in the pay shown on the offer.
- Send your W-9 to info@bookyourshots.com before your first paid job. You are an independent contractor and handle your own taxes; we issue a 1099 where required.
- Set up payouts once in your dashboard (Earnings → Get paid). Stripe, our payment partner, asks for your bank and tax details; we never see them.
- Paid weekly for jobs delivered to the client the week before (Sunday to Saturday). A job delivered on a Sunday is paid in the following week's payout. You get a "Payment sent" email each time.
- Clients rate every delivered shoot. Top-rated photographers get more offers; low ratings, missed jobs or breaking these rules can pause or close an account.
